More About the Foundation…
In December of 2014, the Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation was established in order to provide resources for those who face adversity in our local community. The Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation seeks schools and community members so that we can help those who are struggling with adversity in different ways. The purpose for which the Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation, Incorporated is organized is a 501(c)(3), and it is classified as a Civic Leagues and Social Welfare Organization. The organization is operated primarily to promote social welfare to benefit the Effingham community. We qualify for exemption under section 501(c)(3), because the organization’s net earnings will be devoted primarily to charitable and educational purposes. In addition, no part of the organization’s net earnings will benefit any private shareholder or individual. The Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation, Incorporated seeks to help those who are struggling through adversity in their lives. This mission will be maintained through charitable donations to local schools for various programs and scholarships, and local chapters of charities as well. The focus of the Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation, Incorporated is one that values, above anything else, supporting those who are facing adversity in our local community.
The Andrew Gobczynski Big Heart Foundation, Incorporated is organized and will be operated on a non-profit basis. It is organized primarily to promote social welfare, and it will operate primarily to further the common good and general welfare of the people of the community.
Now in its second year of operation, the AGBHF has distributed almost $8,000 into the Effingham community, helping people who have faced a variety of adversity. For the last two years, we have given three $1,000 scholarships to individual Effingham High School, Teutopolis High School, and Effingham St. Anthony High School student-athletes. These scholarships helped the students continue their post-high school educations. We have also given $1,000 Sportsbacker and Booster Club donations to Effingham High School, Teutopolis High School, and Effingham St. Anthony High School. We have also provided donations for the local chapter of Blessings in a Backpack, and the Second Annual Fight for the Finish 5K, which helps families in the Effingham community who are battling cancer. In addition to these worthwhile donations, this year’s primary focus is to implement a heart testing program for all sophomore student-athletes at Teutopolis, Effingham, and St. Anthony schools. The youth of our community is our most valuable resource. This kind of testing will allow a search for heart anomalies that are not readily present through regular physicals. We hope to implement a heart testing program that focuses on this potentially life-saving testing.
We will also continue to serve the Effingham community in other avenues as well. With your help, we have established our Foundation within the Effingham community, while remembering Andrew at the same time.
